ABOUT IT
The Means and Reagents Preparation sector is responsible for the production of silanized slides that are used in microscopy in the Pathological Anatomy sector, supplying approximately 200,000 units of slides a year. In this process, which generates a significant amount of chemical waste, 250 liters of acetone and 250 liters of water are used annually, which are discarded after use. Around 500 kg of chemical waste is disposed of every year.
The project consists in implementing a new methodology that eliminates the use of water, combined with the insertion of a system for recovering acetone by distillation, which will practically eliminate the generation of chemical waste in the process of producing silanized slides.
Results and Objectives
Implementing the project will save the use of water and acetone, as well as avoiding the generation of chemical waste and the serious environmental damage associated with its disposal, incineration and disposal in industrial landfills.
In financial terms, with the implementation of the new technical process and the optimization of production time, it is estimated that there will be a 25% savings in production costs. The process is being implemented at the company's technical-operational center in São Paulo, and the project is expected to be completed in January 2024.
