Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

The PrevisIA platform, launched in August 2021 by Microsoft with Vale Fund and the Amazon Institute for Man and the Environment (Imazon), is a data analysis and Artificial Intelligence solution programmed to detect areas most at risk of deforestation in the Amazon, using advanced Microsoft Azure cloud resources. This project has made it possible to map these paths more quickly and efficiently, detecting the changes taking place in the environment.

The company's algorithm detects and records changes in the environment, enabling a more agile response to deforestation threats. The platform also significantly increases the speed of response to deforestation and illegal logging activities, facilitating action by the competent authorities. A year after its launch, PrevisIA was recognized at the ECO 2022 Awards, given by the Brazilian section of the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham).

Results and Objectives

The aim of the tool is to provide information for decision-making by the public and private sectors, as well as society in general, for the implementation of preventive actions to combat and control deforestation.

PrevisIA estimates that deforestation in 2023 will be around 11,805 square kilometers, more than in 2022. Although its implementation has been completed, the project is still running and, over the next few years, the platform should continue to be used for forecasting, so that protection measures can be put in place.
