Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

The Guanabara Stingray Project familiarized the Guanabara Bay community with the stingray population, in order to raise awareness about the preservation of these animals and the entire ecosystem in which they are found.

The project by the Mar Urbano Institute (IMU), sponsored by OceanPact, promoted studies and observations of marine life and carried out environmental education and social mobilization actions supporting the preservation of these animals.

Results and Objectives

To help fill the gaps in knowledge regarding the marine life of Guanabara Bay, IMU has carried out expeditions in its waters and documented the beauty of this environment to combat stigma and misinformation about stingrays.

The main results achieved were the production of a 36-minute film, a web series divided into 4 chapters, as well as a booklet for identifying stingrays in Guanabara Bay.
