Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project aims to promote the reuse (as fertigation for undergrowth) of 100% of all effluents treated at the Gravataí Industrial Complex, avoiding the discharge of treated water into the Gravataí River, reducing adverse impacts on the receiving body, and contributing to the renewal of the deep aquifer.

The initiative improves soil quality by promoting the return of macro nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) to the biological cycle, as well as eliminating the discharge of treated effluent into the Gravataí River, which is already compromised by contributions from domestic sewage and industrial waste.

Results and Objectives

Dana's Zero Effluent Project has been licensed by the Henrique Luiz Roessler State Environmental Protection Foundation (FEPAM), the environmental regulatory body for the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The volume of waste licensed is 100 m³/day, or 100,000 liters/day. Its implementation was completed in December 2017.
