ABOUT IT
The Aperam project focuses on reusing the co-product generated in the Reduction area, iron ore fines, as a replacement for granulated iron ore in the MRP-L converter, and as a replacement for scale in the pig iron pre-treatment equipment, the PTG. In addition to replacing granulated iron ore and scale, a methodology and process route were developed to eliminate the need for external industrial drying. The project was carried out at the Aperam Timóteo site in Minas Gerais, in the steelmaking area.
The project was completed in April 2024.
Results and Objectives
The results and benefits included the elimination of the cost of acquiring raw materials (iron ore granules for steelmaking) and the elimination of the cost of external drying. In addition to the financial results obtained in the project, there was a reduction in the exploitation of natural resources and a reduction in CO2 emissions within scope 3.
