ABOUT IT

O Water Return Project, developed by Mosaic Fertilizers node Catalão Mining and Chemical Complex (GO), it was implemented between 2021 and 2022 with the objective of increase water reuse in the phosphate rock beneficiation process and reduce the intake of new water.

The system involves a 14 km aqueduct, which connects to mineral processing plant to chemical plant, enabling recirculation of ore pulp water and rainwater directly into the production process, with average flow rate of 120 m³/h.

The project represents a significant progress in water efficiency, significantly reducing the consumption of new water and raising the total reuse rate to over 92%.

In addition to to contribute directly to SDG 6 (Clean water and sanitation), the initiative reinforces Mosaic's commitment to sustainability, a optimization of natural resources and the minimizing environmental impact of industrial operations.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Increase the water recirculation rate. in the industrial process;

  • Reduce the intake of new water. and the consumption of water resources;

  • Promote the reuse of rainwater. and from ore pulp;

  • Contribute to SDG 6 from the UN (Drinking water and sanitation);

  • Improve operational efficiency. and reduce long-term environmental costs.

Results (to date / achieved)

  • Reduction in the intake of new water: 1,051,200 m³/year;

  • Equivalent to supplying a city with 19,862 inhabitants.;

  • Increased water reuse: of 73% to 92% of the total used;

  • Reduction of approximately 10% in new water intake. of the production process;

  • Direct contribution to SDG 6, reinforcing the sustainable use of water in mining.
