ABOUT IT
The Auéra Project, conducted by Philip Morris Brazil in partnership with Embrapa Temperate Climate Since 2019, it has been a pioneering initiative focused on Promoting biodiversity and sustainable tobacco production. in the Southern Region of Brazil.
The project involves:
Seminars and training sessions on biodiversity, water, and soil conservation for PMB employees and the community;
Detailed socio-environmental assessments of properties integrated into the company;
Application of Auera Index, a mathematical model that measures sustainability and identifies priority areas for action plans;
Sampling of local fauna and flora, including endangered species;
Continuous monitoring of biodiversity, with indicators incorporated into the ESG survey;
Dissemination of knowledge through the publication of books and scientific articles.
The project is ongoing and contributes to the implementation of good environmental practices in family farming.
Results and Objectives
To promote the conservation of biodiversity on agricultural properties;
To encourage the sustainable production of tobacco and other crops;
Ensuring good water management in family farming (water quality, proper waste disposal and conservation of water resources);
Implement socio-environmental action plans based on detailed diagnoses;
Strengthen the capacity building of producers and communities on sustainability;
To produce and share scientific knowledge about sustainable agricultural practices.
Biodiversity conservation: Survey of fauna and flora in all producing regions; continuous monitoring on the properties.
Agricultural sustainability: Application of the Auéra Index to 100% of integrated properties
Water quality and waste management: Improved management of water for human consumption and proper waste disposal.
Training for producers: Ongoing seminars and training for farmers and the community.
Dissemination of knowledge: Publication of books and scientific articles on good agricultural practices.
Environmental preservation and restoration: Preservation of forested areas and restoration of degraded areas.
