ABOUT IT
O BioCMPC Project It consisted of Expansion and modernization of CMPC's Guaíba Industrial Unit, no Rio Grande do Sul, with the goal of achieving high environmental and operational standards.
Started in 2021 and completed at the end of 2023, the project promoted Significant improvements in production capacity, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, waste, noise, water consumption and effluent generation..
Results and Objectives
Objectives:
Environmental:
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1 and 2).
Optimize the water consumption e energy.
Reduce waste, noise and odors of the industrial operation.
Implement advanced environmental monitoring, including electronic noses, noise measurement stations, and inhalable particle measurement stations.
Economic and operational:
Increase production capacity from the industrial unit in 20%.
Substitute fossil fuels replaced by renewable sources, such as biomass (black liquor).
Promote clean energy generated internally and reduce operating costs.
Results achieved:
Decommissioning of the coal-fired boiler and replacement by biomass recovery boiler.
Reduction of 53.4% of tCO₂e emissions Scopes 1 and 2 between 2021 and 2024.
Appreciation of 98% of the waste generated.
Reduction in water consumption of 2 m³/ADt.
Reduction of the level of noise level between 2 and 5 dB and a reduction in odors perceived by the community.
New electrostatic precipitator with 99% efficiency in the retention of inhalable particles.
20% increase in production capacity from the Guaíba Industrial Unit.
Expected results:
Maintenance sustainable operations with clean energy and water efficiency.
Consolidation of reduction of emissions and environmental impacts, maintaining high standards of environmental management.
Possible replication of these practices in other industrial units of the group.
Term: of 2021 to 2023, with ongoing environmental and operational impacts from the start of operations.
