Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project in Roche and eCycle partnership to develop a platform that aims to raise awareness among users of medicines about the correct way to dispose of expired or leftover products. The tool maps existing collection points across the country. The information is available digitally according to the location of each interested party. The partnership seeks to minimize the impacts caused to the environment by the disposal of waste that pollutes waters and contaminates fish and humans who handle these materials. The platform has seen a significant increase in the number of hits each year, mainly from people looking for drug disposal sites. In 2023, more than 79,000 were registered, 26.4% more than the expected projection and 90% more than the previous year.

Results and Objectives

Number of searches for collection points on Roche's website jumped from 41,787 in 2022 to 79,120 in 2023 (increase of more than 90%) - Preliminary data from the eCycle platform suggests that by 2024 the number of searches should reach 85 thousand.
Pharmacies and other establishments are also increasingly engaged in the cause: the number of collection points mapped by eCycle and active in the system grew by 48% from 2022 to 2023
Currently, there are 4,506 active posts on the platform and in the eCycle environment search engine, medicines are also a prominent item in the search for information on disposal and currently account for 26% of users' interest, out of more than 120 items (such as clothing, plastic, household appliances, among others).
