Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project Electrification of the Cranes at the Fospar Port Terminal It was developed by Mosaic Fertilizers with the objective of Replace the use of diesel with electric power. in port operations, promoting significant reduction of CO₂ emissions e reduction of environmental risk associated with the handling and storage of fossil fuels.

Previously, the terminal operated with a 100% energy matrix based on diesel for the operation of the cranes. After a technical and economic feasibility study, a system was implemented. complete electrification system, including:

  • Diesel tank decommissioning,

  • Civil works for the adaptation of the electrical substation.,

  • Acquisition and installation of cables, transformers and circuit breakers.,

  • Increasing the demand for electricity from the distributor. e installation of a new connecting branch all the way to the Fospar unit.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Reduce direct CO₂ emissions associated with the use of diesel in port operations;

  • Reduce environmental risk. resulting from the storage and handling of fuels;

  • Replacing diesel consumption with electricity. from a cleaner and more efficient source;

  • Reduce operating costs and increase the energy efficiency of the operation;

  • Contributing to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) e SDG 13 (Climate Action).

Results

  • Complete decommissioning of the diesel tank., eliminating environmental risks at the pier;

  • Reduction of 503,288 liters of diesel per year.;

  • Reduction of 1,696 tons of CO₂/year associated with crane operation;

  • Enhanced energy efficiency e more sustainable port operation;

  • Example of successful electrification. in a port industrial environment.
