Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The aim of this project is to demonstrate the commitment of Whirlpool Rio Claro and its employees to the environment, practiced on a daily basis in its activities, processes and also in the activities of third parties through the Environmental Guardians Program.

The program was implemented to involve, stimulate and seek a more direct, continuous and effective participation of operational employees in the prevention of environmental impacts and accidents, preparing, motivating, integrating and involving the entire team at the unit and extending it to their families. In addition to achieving results in terms of reducing losses and waste of financial and natural resources, reducing and eliminating negative environmental impacts, and keeping our operation sustainable.

Project description:

2017 saw the start of the WCM - World Class Manufacturing journey, a methodology whose main values include preserving the environment, as well as seeking continuous process improvement, guaranteeing the quality of our products, eliminating waste and reducing costs, among other things.

One of the WCM criteria addressed in the Environment and Energy Pillar is the training and involvement of people, and in order to evaluate an efficient way of involving our entire operation, we developed our Environmental Guardians Program following the guidelines below:

The Environmental Guardian is a multiplier of good environmental practices who inspects, disseminates and promotes the knowledge and awareness of employees in the prevention of environmental accidents and guidelines related to environmental issues.

The scope of the project was established in program form according to the guidelines below:

1st INTEREST: CREATING INTEREST AND SENSITIZING PEOPLE IN THE ENVIRONMENT: Through a survey we carried out, we identified that 51% of employees were interested in the environmental area.
2nd KNOWLEDGE: GETTING TO KNOW THE ENVIRONMENT: we set up a schedule of initial training sessions to train them in the concepts and environmental issues that are important for a work routine and knowledge.
3rd ATTITUDE: CREATING THE HABIT OF CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT: Each guardian has the responsibility of taking care of their area and helping the other when necessary, practicing mutual collaboration and spreading environmental culture.
4th SKILL: GETTING SKILLS TO SOLVE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS: We identified a specific skill in each guardian: public speaking, training, emergency response, project development;
5th EVALUATION CAPACITY: BEING ABLE TO UNDERSTAND CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS: application of auditing and development of Kaizen;
6th PARTICIPATION: PARTICIPATE IN IMPROVING ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS: develop Kaizen week, analysis of occurrences, technical discussions.
7th INVOLVEMENT: INVOLVE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE TO IMPROVE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES: promote people and expand the program.
