Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

O Ethanol Project, developed by Suape Energy, is a pioneering global initiative for generating electricity from Ethanol as the primary fuel.
This is about world's first motor-generator unit with this technology, capable of producing steady, constant and sustainable energy based on a renewable source 100%.

The project represents a milestone in Brazil's energy transition, showing that it is possible to guarantee energy security and operational stability without negative environmental impacts..

The pilot unit, located in interior of Pernambuco, aims to validate the technical and economic conditions for the future deployment of a 600 MW complex, which would make the undertaking the largest clean energy thermoelectric complex in the world.

The project contributes to strengthening the national economy, with widespread use of Brazilian ethanol, local job creation and promotion of bioeconomy as a driver of sustainable development.

Results and Objectives

Project Objectives

• To demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of continuous electricity generation from hydrated ethanol.
• Reduce carbon emissions by replacing fossil fuels with renewable fuel of national origin.
• To promote bioenergy market, expanding the use of ethanol as a reliable and dispatchable energy source.
• To generate jobs and income in interior of Pernambuco, with a focus on training and technological innovation.
• Contribute to the diversification of the Brazilian energy matrix and for the goals of decarbonization of the electricity sector.
• After technical validation, scale the project to 600 MW of installed capacity, consolidating Brazil as a global leader in sustainable energy generation.

Expected Results and Impacts

Environmental:
• Significant reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to thermal power plants fueled by fossil fuels.
• Use of renewable ethanol as a replacement for fuel oil and natural gas.
• Direct contribution to the national and global decarbonization targets (Paris Agreement).
Zero polluting waste, with clean combustion and controlled emissions.

Economic:
Total investment of R$ 20 million in the initial phase (implementation and operational testing).
Promoting the biofuels market, generating national demand for hydrous ethanol.
Development of national technology with potential for export and replication in other countries.
• Potential for movement agricultural and industrial production chains associated with the production and distribution of ethanol.

Social:
Generation of direct and indirect jobs. in the installation and operation of the pilot plant.
Technical training of local professionals in the use of clean technologies.
• Appreciation of bioenergy as an engine for regional development and strengthening of low-carbon economy.
