ABOUT IT
The Green Honey Project, a partnership between Sylvamo, Instituto Atá, Reenvolver, and the Copaíba Environmental Association, focuses on strengthening the meliponiculturist production chain and investing in the sustainable management of bees as a strategic tool for the conservation of species and forests, as well as disseminating knowledge about native bees and the importance of pollinator conservation through actions in various municipalities in the Mogi Guaçu River basin.
The Verde Mel project stimulates the value chain of meliponiculturists, investing in the multiplication and distribution of colonies to expand meliponaries, training of producers and professionals involved, and the production of honey and by-products. Through the distribution of colonies, the project seeks to promote the strategic pollination of natural and agricultural ecosystems, as well as the economic development of rural properties. Through the commercialization of honey and other by-products, we promote the recognition of honey as an important gastronomic product of Brazil.
Since 2020, the project has installed 23 meliponaries, multiplying a total of 186 colonies of native stingless bees, and has trained 93 rural producers to receive the bees. In addition, it has conducted research and published two books on the subject. It is estimated that the project has contributed to approximately 7,000 hectares covered by pollination.
