Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project implemented at Kenvue's OTC (Over the Counter) factory in São José dos Campos replaced the steam-based water heating for the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system with a... high thermal efficiency heat pump.

Previously, heating relied on burning natural gas, generating high GHG emissions and high water consumption. With the new technology, the process has become more efficient, using renewable electricity and significantly reducing emissions, water consumption, and operating costs.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Reduce Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions

  • Increase the energy efficiency of the HVAC system.

  • Reduce consumption of water and natural gas.

  • Digitizing and granularizing energy consumption data

  • To generate financial and environmental savings for the manufacturing unit.

Expected and Obtained Results

  • Reduction of CO₂ emissions: > 300 tons/year (Scope 1)

  • Reducing water consumption: > 2,000 m³/year

  • Expanded use of renewable electricity

  • Digitization of consumer data for greater control and efficiency

  • Energy saved: > 2.5 GWh/year (Reduction of 1.4 GWh from March to August 2025)

  • Net GHG emission reductions from March to August 2025: 155 tCO₂ eq

Implementation: February 2025
