ABOUT IT
O Organic Backyards Project, initiated in 2017, is an initiative of Philip Morris Brazil, in partnership with Embrapa, which aims to support rural families in the creation and maintenance of agroecological orchards on their properties.
The project promotes:
Diversification of agricultural production;
Access to healthy food;
Conservation of local biodiversity;
Prevention of child labor;
Ongoing training and technical support for up to three years.
Participating families receive comprehensive guidance on planting, maintaining, and monitoring orchards, with technical support and a 28-step manual. Surplus production can be sold, generating... A new source of income and strengthening food security..
In addition to family properties, the project supports agricultural schools, teaching family succession, entrepreneurship, and agricultural management. Since its inception, several programs have already been implemented. 589 orchards, benefiting more than 64,000 people in three states in southern Brazil.
