Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

All IVD products are imported by air. The logistics flow was from Miami-FL airport to Viracopos-SP airport, and in order for the products to reach the IVD Warehouse in Joinville/SC, they also had to be transported by road. Approximately 700 km were traveled to deliver the products. In one year, around 515 shipments are made, generating around 220 tCO2e. With the implementation of the projectIn order to receive the products, the flow is now from Miami-FL airport to Florianópolis-SC airport. It is still necessary to use road transport to deliver the products to the Warehouse, but only 201km is traveled per shipment. Therefore, by changing logistics, it was possible to reduce the generation of CO2e by road by around 72%.

Results and Objectives

Siemens Healthineers aims to reduce CO2 generation in Scope 3 by 90% by 2025. Therefore, investing in reduction projects is one of its objectives. The aim of the project was to change/replace the airport where in vitro diagnostic products were received. They had always received the products via Viracopos/SP airport, but it was still necessary to use road transport to get the products to the IVD Warehouse in Joinville/SC. Around 700 km were traveled per trip, generating around 0.40 tCO2e per trip. With the implementation of the project, the receiving airport was changed and is now in Florianópolis/SC, so there is a reduction in the mileage traveled, with only 210 km to Joinville/SC. Considering one year of the project, there was a reduction of 72% in CO2e emissions, from 220 tCO2e to just 62 tCO2e.

Reduction of 90% of CO2 emissions in scopes 1 and 2 by 2030 and Reduction of 90% of CO2 emissions in scope 3 by 2050.
