ABOUT IT
The project Reuse of Environmental Liabilities in the Agricultural Fertilization Production Chain (P7 and P12) It is an initiative of Mosaic Fertilizers aimed at valorization of waste generated in the treatment of industrial effluents, transforming them into agricultural inputs through sustainable practices and circular economy.
During the process of wastewater treatment, Two main types of waste are generated:
P7 – Waste from the 1st Stage Treatment Lagoon;
P12 – Residue from the 2nd Stage Treatment Lagoon.
These materials, after going through drying and stabilization processes in drying yards, they are reclassified as by-products and intended for agricultural fertilization.
The initiative significantly reduces environmental liabilities, It prevents the accumulation of waste in disposal areas., and It transforms previously disposable materials into productive inputs., generating economic and environmental value for the operation.
Results and Objectives
Objectives
Reduce the accumulation of industrial waste. originating from wastewater treatment;
Utilize nutrients present in P7 and P12 waste., promoting improved soil fertility and structure;
Avoid risks of soil and groundwater contamination.;
Reduce operational and waste disposal costs.;
Strengthening the circular economy, connecting industrial and agricultural processes;
Contribute to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) e SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Results
340 thousand tons/year P7 and P12 waste materials reused as agricultural by-products;
100% sustainable utilization of the material;
Reducing environmental liabilities and contamination risks. of the soil and groundwater;
Utilization of beneficial nutrients to the soil, improving its structure and fertility;
Reduction of operational costs including transportation and disposal;
Internal business development, no additional costs, conducted by Mosaic's own team;
Integration between industry and agriculture, strengthening the cycle of waste recycling.
