Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project consists of a new phosphorus recovery process from the phosphogypsum pile, with direct application in the agro-industry. The technology captures the accumulated effluent from rainwater regarding the phosphogypsum pile, which previously contaminated the drainage system with chemical compounds such as phosphorus and fluorine.

This water is reused in the production process, reintegrating the phosphorus (P₂O₅) to the system, increasing the efficiency of phosphoric acid production and transforming one environmental liability in productive resources. Studies on the chemical behavior of effluents and water balance simulations were carried out to make the solution viable.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Reduce water consumption in the phosphoric acid production process;

  • Recovering and reintegrating phosphorus and other chemical compounds to the production system;

  • Transforming environmental liabilities into resources;

  • Increase efficiency and sustainability. of industrial production;

  • Promoting a circular economy within the industrial process.

Results (to date / achieved)

  • Reduction in water usage: 1.3 million m³ per year;

  • Recycling of phosphorus and other chemical compounds;

  • Transforming potentially polluting wastewater into a productive resource.;

  • Project completed and integrated into the industrial process..
