ABOUT IT

The project is part of CBA's ESG Strategy 2030, which establishes environmental, social and governance targets for decarbonization and climate resilience.

The initiative combines technological innovation with support for public management, strengthening Municipal competencies for mitigating and adapting to climate change.. The project unfolds in Climate Action Initiative, in partnership with the Votorantim Institute and the Itaúsa Institute, which offers municipalities practical climate planning tools, based on climate justice.

Main tools and programs:

  • Climate Vulnerability (IVCM): It assesses climate risks such as floods, droughts, wildfires, and landslides, taking vulnerable populations into consideration.

  • Climate Adaptation Checklist for Municipalities: Diagnosis of municipal structures and skills needed for managing climate crises.

  • Support for Public Management (AGP) Climate Action: A four-year mentoring and technical advisory program, starting in Juquitiba (SP) and Muriaé (MG) in 2024, and expanding to Niquelândia (GO) and Juquiá (SP) in 2025.

The project seeks building municipal climate resilience, promoting integration between government departments, public-private partnerships, and technical training for the adoption of climate adaptation and mitigation policies.

Results and Objectives

Project Objectives

General:
Strengthen institutional and municipal capacities to address the effects of climate change, promoting resilience, adaptation and mitigation.

Specifics:

  • Increase technical and managerial skills municipal teams' work on climate adaptation.

  • Strengthen integration between departments and external partnerships.

  • Equipping teams to planning and managing adaptation policies.

  • To define priority areas and individuals for policies related to climate risks.

  • Establish concrete measures to adaptation and resilience.

  • To improve communication with the population Regarding risks and preventive measures.

Expected Results and Impacts

Institutional and Social Impacts:

  • Mobilization of more than 170 people in 2024, including managers, working group leaders, public institutions and private organizations.

  • Over 110 hours of mentoring to strengthen local skills.

  • Production of customized solutions and tools to address the specific vulnerabilities of each municipality.

  • Greater integration between government departments and external institutions.

  • Municipal training for adopt measures for adaptation and management of climate risks.

Strategic Impacts:

  • Reducing the vulnerability of municipalities to climate disasters.

  • Construction of structured local climate governance and replicable in other territories influenced by the CBA.

  • Promotion of climate equity and justice in addressing climate change.
