The project Sustainable Waste Management Practices represents a milestone in the commitment of Hyundai Motor Brazil with sustainability and the circular economy in the automotive sector. Since 2018, the company's factory in Piracicaba (SP) it became a Zero Landfill Plant, allocating 100% of the generated waste to co-processing, recycling or reuse processes, eliminating the need to send it to landfills.
In 2023, the company began the process to obtain the Zero Waste Certification, The award, granted to organizations that divert at least 90% of waste from landfills and incineration, solidified Hyundai's position as a leading company. first car manufacturer in Brazil to achieve this recognition, reinforcing its leadership position in environmental practices and industrial innovation.
Results and Objectives
Eliminate the sending of waste to landfills entirely;
Implement innovative solutions for recycling, reuse, and co-processing;
To promote a circular economy within the automotive supply chain;
To promote environmental education and internal engagement;
Generating jobs and income through the waste recycling chain;
To become a national benchmark in the sustainable management of industrial waste.
Quantitative results (2018–2025):
Total waste diverted from landfills: 154,425,546.98 tons
Waste sent for co-processing/incineration: 12,194,337 tons
Recycled waste: 142,321,209.98 tons
Average annual volume returning to the automotive supply chain (circular economy): 66 tons
Qualitative results:
Job and income generation: Strengthening cooperatives and recycling companies;
Environmental education: Ongoing awareness programs about responsible consumption and disposal;
Reducing environmental impacts: Mitigation of GHG emissions and prevention of soil and water contamination;
Institutional recognition: obtaining Zero Waste Certification (2023) and recertification in 2024 and 2025, reaffirming the consistency of practices.
