General Description

The project Transforma Network It was born out of the need to Strengthening the foundation of the recycling chain in Brazil: independent waste pickers.

In partnership with CooperCaps, The program seeks to:

  • Give visibility and appreciation to the waste pickers;

  • Offer training and personal and professional development;

  • To guarantee financial independence through credit collector, paid directly for the collected material;

  • Transforming waste pickers into small entrepreneurs, increasing income and quality of life;

  • Expand the recycling rate, encouraging companies to invest in waste picker credit and the collection of materials.

Currently, the program has 128 waste pickers and has already registered one 85% increase in average income of the participants.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • To empower and develop independent waste pickers;

  • To guarantee fair and independent compensation for the recyclable material collected;

  • Increase recycling rates by expanding the network of waste pickers;

  • Support the socioeconomic inclusion and local entrepreneurship.

Results and Impacts

  • 128 waste pickers involved;

  • 85% increase in average income of the participants;

  • 2,216 tons of waste collected so far;

  • Training and capacity building for waste pickers such as small entrepreneurs, increasing the sustainability and efficiency of the recycling chain.
