ABOUT IT

The project's Waste Management of the Lius Augustinian Network The company uses technology to monitor, through a dashboard of indicators, the waste generated in the educational units of the Santo Agostinho Colleges and the Santo Agostinho Professional School (EPSA), in Minas Gerais. The software manages documents, approves supply chain partners, and presents monthly online reports to ensure the correct disposal of recyclable, special, and organic waste.

This commitment reflects the institution's willingness to address socio-environmental impacts, working towards achieving the goal of... Zero Landfill. The process involves engaging the school community, both pedagogical and administrative, in the separation, collection, final disposal, and compliance with legislation, as well as promoting awareness campaigns.

Among the indicators are: volume of waste diverted from landfills, amount of carbon emissions minimized, the percentage of recyclable waste by type, as well as the outlook for compensation through reforestation and water conservation. The project ensures traceability of the entire chain of partners in the collection and logistics of waste, on a periodic basis, at the Lius Agostinianos Network Units. In this way, proper treatment is guaranteed, in compliance with applicable legislation, respecting environmental and social aspects.
It is worth highlighting a particular initiative of Colégio AIACOM (RJ), another Social School in the Lius Network, which, in partnership with the Light Recycles Project, began to obtain a discount on its energy bill from the Light utility company by properly disposing of recyclables. The school established itself as a community collection point and expanded the separation of recyclable waste to be collected, properly disposed of, and converted into a discount on the Social School's electricity expenses.

Results and Objectives

The project was implemented in February 2023, and the overall result obtained up to December 2023 was 33.78 tons of organic waste destined for composting and 35.35 tons of recyclable waste destined for recycling. This project was so successful that it continued into 2024, linked to the institution's strategic objectives and incorporated into the key results expected by the ESG Committee. Furthermore, in line with the school curriculum, the project is incorporated into teaching programs linked to the UN's 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals, directly impacting students.
