ABOUT IT
The action was implemented at the end of 2020 and focuses on management of non-recyclable waste generated in the operations of Airports Brazil Viracopos (ABV). These residues are equivalent to household waste, classified as class D, according to Resolution No. 661/2022 of the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), and Class IIA, according to NBR 10004 from the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT).
Since 2021, non-recyclable waste became diverted from landfills e sent to a Solid Waste Recovery Plant, where they are transformed into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) — an energy input used primarily by the cement industry.
The waste processed under the project comes from administrative areas e common areas of the terminal, including materials such as Organic waste, paper and cardboard, plastics and contaminants..
Results and Objectives
The project's main objective is reduce the amount of non-recyclable waste sent to landfills, promoting its energy recovery.
Among its specific objectives are:
Implement practices aligned with company's waste management policy;
Increase energy recovery. of solid waste through the production of RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel);
Reduce environmental impacts related to final disposal in landfills;
Optimize operational management waste generated in administrative and operational areas;
Maintain an average diversion of approximately 1,700 tons of waste per year..
Since its implementation, the project has shown significant quantitative and operational results:
2024: approximately 1,700 tons Solid waste was diverted from landfills;
First half of 2025: They already were 865 tons redirected towards increased value;
Total accumulated to date: about 6,600 tons of solid waste were valued, becoming energy source via CDR.
The project It does not have a defined closing date., having been incorporated in a way permanent to the operational strategy for waste management. from Aeroportos Brasil Viracopos.
