The project's waste management at Cidade Center Norte (CCN) It covers the ventures. Shopping Center Norte, Lar Center and Expo Center Norte, focusing on circular economy, positive environmental and social impact. The project carries out the Segregation, recycling, composting and transformation of non-recyclable waste into municipal waste-derived fuel (MWDF), eliminating the need to send waste to landfills.
Furthermore, the revenue from the sale of recyclable materials is fully reverted to the Center Norte Institute (ICN), fostering employability and social inclusion projects in the surrounding community. The project also promotes engagement of visitors, employees and partners, through campaigns and waste collection points, including ashtrays and cardboard disposal.

Results and Objectives

Objectives:
Environmental:

  • Eliminate completely the disposal of waste in landfills.

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding approximately 5 thousand tons of CO₂ over the last three years.

  • Increase the recycling and composting rate to 85% in shopping malls e 75% at Expo Center Norte.

Economic and social:

  • Reinvest the revenue from recycling in social projects that strengthen the local community.

  • Engaging employees, partners, and visitors.

  • Create opportunities for income generation and skills training For residents of the North Zone of São Paulo.

Results achieved:

  • 100% zero landfill in all CCN projects.

  • Community Garden: reuse of 21 tons of organic waste since 2022, benefiting more than 4,800 people.

  • Waste Management Center (CGR): processing 665 tons of recyclable materials between 2022 and 2023, resulting in more than R$ 1 million invested in job and income creation projects.

  • Cigarette butt collection: more than 13 thousand units transformed into 190 sheets of sulfite paper, preventing contamination of 6,000 liters of water.

  • Emissions avoided: approximately 5 thousand tons of CO₂ over the last three years.

Expected results:

  • Increase the recycling and composting rate to 85% in shopping malls e 75% at Expo Center Norte.

  • Reduce by 20% absolute greenhouse gas emissions until 2030.

  • Strengthen the circular economy and the social projects linked to the ICN.

  • Promote development and social inclusion up to 100,000 people in a socially vulnerable area in the North Zone of São Paulo.

Term: Ongoing targets with annual reviews; a 20% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030.
