Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

In 2022, Bracell launched the One-for-One Commitment, which will contribute to the conservation of areas of native vegetation equal in size to the areas planted. Bracell is committed to protecting, conserving or restoring one hectare of native forest for every one hectare planted with eucalyptus by 2025. The conserved areas are primarily Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Caatinga biomes, located in the states where we operate, in São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia.

In addition to the conservation of native areas interspersed with eucalyptus plantations (mosaic management), the commitment supports conservation in public areas through partnerships with governments and other institutions. Partnerships with the federal, state and municipal levels take place through the transfer of services or materials to Conservation Units, such as parks, ecological stations, wildlife sanctuaries and others.

Results and Objectives

Bracell ended 2022 with a total of 82% of conserved areas, i.e. 0.82 ha of conservation for every hectare planted. After reaching the target set for 2025, if the company increases the areas planted with eucalyptus, the total areas conserved will also increase proportionally, in order to maintain the One-for-One Commitment.

In 2023, Bracell committed to supporting the conservation of approximately 105,000 hectares in Conservation Units in the Atlantic Forest, Cerrado and Caatinga biomes, located in the states where we operate, São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul and Bahia. The terms of commitment were signed with the São Paulo Forestry Foundation, the Bahia Environment Secretariat (Sema) and the Mato Grosso do Sul Environment Institute (Imasul).

To date, the actions carried out in the Protected Areas supported by the One-for-One Commitment have primarily focused on preservation and conservation. However, restoration and reforestation projects are also part of the scope of the Commitment. In 2022, cooperation began with the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation, which resulted in 77,000 trees being planted in areas owned by the company's partners in the municipalities of Botucatu, Agudos and Piratininga - São Paulo.
