Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

Cummins' major technological transformations to meet Conama standards include the U Module and Single Module systems.  Highly flexible, compact and lightweight due to the technologies applied (60% smaller and 40% lighter when compared to systems that meet the same level of emissions in Europe), they help to reduce the use of natural resources in their production. Each system is made up of four modules - the Particulate Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), the Urea Gas and Particulate Mixer (Mixer) and the NOx Reduction Catalyst (SCR) - and features a modular patent as a major differentiator in the industry, aimed at reducing costs and speeding up maintenance: DOC, DPF and SCR parts can be disassembled separately, avoiding the replacement or repair of the entire system in the event of maintenance and failure, thus creating significant savings for users and fleet owners as well as a reducing the disposal of parts that are still within their useful life cycle.

In addition to developing the product and its respective applications with automakers, the first production line for Euro VI aftertreatment systems was created in a dedicated 2,000 m2 area, with design, development and expertise from the company's global engineering team in Brazil. With a modern structure and integrated into Cummins Brazil's engine plant, the new line for the U Module and Single Module platforms has a production capacity of more than 30,000 parts per year.  Cummins Brasil's solutions for Euro VI also bring significant advances across the entire range of engines, with a new calibration system to improve efficiency and guarantee emissions control, carried out by updating the on-board electronics.  In addition to the exhaust gas treatment system, Cummins Euro VI engines (3.8, 4.5, 6.7, 9, 12 and 15 liters) have technological advances aimed at increasing efficiency, achieving the new emission limits without the need to increase energy (fuel) consumption.

Results and Objectives

Reduction of polluting gas emissions by 70% Hydrocarbons, 77% NOx and 66% Particulate Matter.

Introduction of more compact post-treatment systems through the use of technologies that are 60% smaller than the generations in use in Europe to comply with similar regulations, reducing the use of natural materials (metals, precious metals, etc.).

SDGs

12. Responsible consumption and production , 13. Climate action , 7. Affordable and clean energy

External Certification

Cetesb - Proconve P8 and Ibama: License for the Use of Vehicle or Engine Configuration (LCVM), a document that certifies compliance with vehicle emissions legislation (pollutants and noise) and allows the sale of engines, light vehicles, heavy vehicles and machinery in Brazil.
