Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

The project aims to plant a tree for every birth at Moinhos de Vento Hospital until October 2027. With each birth, the hospital gives the parents a " Life Certificate" - a certificate confirming that the baby's birth has inspired the planting of a tree. The certificate also contains a QR Code, allowing the family to follow the tree's growth and even schedule visits.

According to the hospital, estimates indicate that greenhouse gas emissions from Brazilian hospitals contribute approximately 5% of total emissions in all sectors. As well as raising awareness in society, the purpose of the initiative is also to engage large companies to become partners in this project. The expectation is that, by the end of the project, Hospital Moinhos de Vento will be a carbon neutral company.

Results and Objectives

This initiative translates into approximately 4,000 trees every year, totaling around 20,000 trees over five years, in the Viamão/RS region. This results in a direct reduction in the impact of greenhouse gas emissions, removing approximately 88 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year. The planting of the trees should enable the reconstruction of ecological corridors for local fauna and the restoration of native riparian forest.
