Forest restoration of the SUAPE Ecological Preservation Zone

Complexo Industrial Portuário Governador Eraldo Gueiros – SUAPE

ABOUT IT

The Suape Industrial Port Complex is a Brazilian port located in the State of Pernambuco with a total area of 13,500 hectares, divided into five zones, including the Ecological Preservation Zone – ZPEC (59% of the total area).

Aiming at advancing the Forest Restoration projects of the ZPEC, which occupies an area of approximately 8,000 hectares, the SUAPE Complex equipped its forest nursery for the production and maintenance of seedlings that are used in forest recovery efforts in its territory.

Considering the need to have locally available seedlings (in number and species) for planting and replanting in these areas, a decision was made to produce the forest seedlings in the SUAPE Nursery itself, which has an area of 1.75 hectares, with water and electricity supply (including independent generation of photovoltaic energy).

Currently, the nursery has approximately 550,000 seedlings of 80 different species, which will be used in the reforestation of the ZPEC.

Project in execution, with targets set until 2035.

Results and Objectives

The Project intends to promote the reforestation of 4,612.18 hectares by the year 2035.
