Zero Landfill Project
Takeda Brazil
ABOUT IT
Before the project was implemented, the company sent toilet and personal hygiene waste, restaurant waste and some non-recyclable materials to the Estre Ambiental landfill in Paulínia.
With the program, all the bins were identified so that the waste could be disposed of correctly among recyclables, co-processables, non-recyclables, contaminated and hazardous waste and waste for biodigestion (organics and leftover food).
All the waste that would have gone to landfill now has two final destinations: co-processing or incineration for hazardous, controlled, contaminated and non-recyclable waste, as well as biodigestion for organic waste, which is treated on the factory premises. The process also extends to construction waste, which is sent to a separation and crushing plant, and cigarette butts, which are recycled and turned into cellulose.
The plant is now switching from co-processing to pyrolysis, a technique that turns waste into coal, oil, gas and water, which can be reused in other industrial processes to become zero waste.
Takeda engages the company's areas to reduce the amount of solid waste generated each year. Control of these quantities is being implemented through a tool called the "Green Platform".
Results and Objectives
Through the Zero Landfill project, we have diverted 100% of the waste produced from landfills. Generation of 1,000 jobs.
