ABOUT IT
The main objective of Papirus Circular is to offer a circular economy solution, involving all the links in the chain. Papirus acquires post-consumer waste (packaging and other paper already used by consumers) from registered cooperatives, produces cardboard with this waste; the printers (Papirus' clients) develop the packaging for the Brand Owners that will be used to package their products, at which stage they can acquire the recycling credits and all the traceability of the raw materials in that packaging.
When the final consumer buys the product, they will also have full traceability via a QR Code that can be printed on the packaging, where they can check which cooperative the raw materials in that package came from. The next important step is for consumers to dispose of their packaging correctly so that the process can start again. This action will be encouraged by the information on the landing page accessed by the QR Code.
Every kilo of post-consumer paper waste generates a credit, which can be purchased by brand owners to prove that they are in line with the PNRS recycling target of 22% of the packaging used in their products.
The implementation of the project has been completed and the project will be maintained..
Results and Objectives
Considering the period from January 2020 to January 2022, Papirus has already sold approximately 3,300 tons of Vitacarta® and Vitacyle®. In 2021, the sum of the two products totaled approximately 2,500 tons, given that the Vitacycle® product had its first sale in November 2020. Another factor is related to the progress of machine occupancy by Vitacycle®, which has a priority in production, reaching 5% of the total volume produced in one year, at a time when the market is in high demand for cardboard, given the limited production of a paper machine.
Papirus has an approved investment plan for the years 2022 and 2023 aimed at improving the paper machine and among the investments, approximately 39% of the total are directed towards changes that contribute to recycling processes and that are closely linked to the production of Vitacarta® and Vitacyle® products that support the entire Papirus Circular program.
