ABOUT IT
The Net Zero 2030 Plan is a strategic plan for PwC Brazil based on six pillars of action, aimed at achieving the science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that have been set globally, covering all the offices throughout Brazil.
The action pillars of the Net Zero Plan guide the annual measurement of emissions, the absolute reduction of direct emissions, the transition to a renewable energy matrix, the management of business trips, the engagement of suppliers and the neutralization of unavoidable emissions.
Since 2021, we have permanently adopted a business model based on a low-carbon economy, encouraging remote working and reducing our office footprint. In addition, all offices have migrated to a renewable 100% energy matrix through the acquisition of Renewable Energy Certificates of wind origin, which represents the traceability of the environmental attribute of the electricity generated at its source.
The data that supports the emissions inventory is provided by a third party in accordance with the ISAE3000 standard.
Results and Objectives
These are the objectives:
-Absolute reduction of direct emissions: Develop measures to reduce absolute emissions of Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gases by 50% by 2030, compared to the base year of 2019.
-Transition to a renewable energy matrix: Reduce energy consumption in offices and ensure the use of 100% of renewable energy tracked by I-REC certifications by 2022.
-Management of business travel impacts: Continuous mapping and development of strategies to reduce business travel emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to the base year of 2019.
-Supplier engagement: Engaging the supply chain so that 50% of our suppliers, defined by their emission potential, have reduction targets validated by science by 2025.
-Neutralization of emissions: Compensation of our unavoidable emissions as of 2023 through environmental projects that generate carbon credits following high quality criteria.
So far, the project has produced results:
- Reduction of 91.6% in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, which refer to emissions from fuel consumption (by generators and cars) and non-renewable electricity consumption. This reduction has been achieved through the transition of offices to LEED-certified buildings with improved energy efficiency and the transition to a 100% renewable energy matrix;
- A reduction of 84.8% in Scope 3 emissions associated with business travel, which includes emissions from accommodation, air and land travel. This reduction has been achieved, in particular, by permanently adopting a business model based on a low-carbon economy, encouraging remote working and reducing business travel.
- Neutralization of 100% of our unavoidable emissions since 2019 by investing in conservation projects in the Amazon Rainforest and energy transition projects in the Northeast, which have generated carbon credits.
