Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The technology of Hydroponic Green Fodder (HGF), developed by Biofeed Brazil, consists of an animal feed production system in an environment indoor, controlled and automated, without the use of soil, pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
The system is modular and scalable, with seven-day production cycle, capable of transforming 1 kg of grain in up to 8 kg of fresh forage, with digestibility between 80% and 90% e crude protein levels between 18% and 26%.
Technology is applied in Feeding cattle, sheep, goats, horses and other production animals, and can be implemented in rural, urban and peri-urban properties.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Reduce the consumption of natural resources, with superior savings of over 90% in water usage. e reduction of up to 99% of arable land necessary in comparison to conventional production.

  • Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. associated with the production of bulk feed, with Estimated impact of 12.4 kg of CO₂eq avoided per kilogram of FVH produced..

  • Eliminate the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and other chemical inputs.

  • To promote diversification of animal feed sources and to increase productive resilience in the face of extreme weather conditions.

  • Strengthen family farming and expand the productive inclusion of small producers, generating income and local jobs.

  • To promote reduction or optimization of energy consumption of operations and generate new sustainable alternatives for the livestock sector.

Results

  • Productivity: until 15 kg/m² per cycle and the ability to feed 60 cattle for finishing or 80 for fattening per module (Bio1200 model).

  • Water conservation: greater than 90%, with 95% recirculation of the resource used.

  • Continuous production: o PAD-DF Production Hub reaches 10 tons of FVH per day, with average cost of R$ 0.55/kg.

  • Environmental efficiency: Disposal of agricultural and solid waste typical of conventional production; 100% of the biomass produced is utilized in animal feed.

  • Water management: In the PAD-DF program, the estimated savings are... 150,000 liters of water per day, equivalent to 54.7 million liters per year.

  • Scope: technology in continuous operation since 2022, expanding to different regions of Brazil.

  • Institutional support: partnership with Sebrae-DF through the program ALI Rural, which contributed to the technological validation and consolidation of the business model.
