ABOUT IT
The project's Cummins Brazil's ReCon Line It is an initiative of circular economy which applies advanced industrial remanufacturing processes in engines and components for heavy vehicles. In operation for over 35 years in Brazil, the project focuses reduce environmental impacts, extend the product life cycle e to offer more affordable and sustainable solutions for the replacement market.
Through collection of used partial engines, Cummins performs the complete disassembly, technical cleaning, detailed inspection e reuse of high-value components, replacing worn parts with new items, keeping the engineering standard, quality and factory performance.
The project's remanufacturing ReCon reduces by up to 85% electricity consumption compared to the manufacturing of new items and It prevents the disposal of more than 580 tons of materials per year. in Brazil, contributing to mitigation of global emissions, with an estimated impact of 90,000 tons of CO₂ avoided per year..
In addition to environmental benefits, the program provides direct economic advantages, with savings of up to 40% for customers and 12-month national warranty, ensuring Quality and reliability equivalent to new products..
Recently, the project has made new progress with the Launch of the ReCon injector for Euro V engines. and with the consolidation of Backbone line, that simplifies the parts portfolio e increases logistical efficiency, reaching recycling rates of up to 99.5%.
This is a A concrete example of circularity applied to the heavy automotive industry., fully aligned with the guidelines ESG and to Cummins' global decarbonization strategy, Destination Zero™.
Results and Objectives
Environmental:
Reduce energy consumption and the CO₂ emissions associated with the production of new components.
Avoid discarding materials. and reduce the volume of waste destined for landfills.
Promoting circularity and the responsible remanufacturing in the heavy automotive sector.
Economic and Operational:
Reduce costs and expand access to sustainable and competitive products.
Strengthen the reverse supply chain., expanding the collection of used engines ("shells") in partnership with workshops and fleet owners.
Mitigating risks in the supply chain, ensuring the availability of parts even during periods of shortage of new materials.
Social and Strategic:
Contribute to carbon neutrality targets by 2030.
Integrate the results of ReCon into Global strategy Destination to Zero™, promoting innovation and leadership in sustainability.
Reduction of up to 85% in electricity consumption compared to the production of new items.
Annual reuse of approximately 580 tons of materials., thus preventing disposal in landfills.
Estimated reduction of 90,000 tons of CO₂/year in the global operations of the ReCon product line.
Extending the useful life cycle of engines and components, with a 12-month national warranty.
Savings of up to 40% in the final cost to the customer.
Recycling rate of up to 99.5% of components with the Backbone line.
Strengthening the reverse logistics chain, with the expansion of the industrial collection and recycling network.
Direct contribution for the goal of 1.4 gigatons of CO₂ avoided by 2050 by Cummins global.
