The figure for 2023 and 2022 (1.3 gCO2e/kWh) reflect atypical years. In 2022, the Termopernambuco combined cycle natural gas power plant did not start operating for commercial purposes. In 2023, due to orders from the ONS, the plant was only active for a few days in the last two months of the year.
Between 2017 and 2023, the emissions intensity per kilowatt of energy generated fell from 128 gCO2e/kWh to 3.6 gCO2e/kWh. The figure for 2023 is the same as that for 2022 (1.3 gCO2e/kWh).
