Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project “"From Trash to Energy"” consists of Donation of biodigesters (Homebiogás model 7.0) for community institutions in the vicinity of the assets of ENGIE Brazil.

Biodigesters transform Organic waste into biogas and liquid biofertilizer., promoting:

  • Reducing the use of traditional cooking gas, avoiding CO2 emissions.

  • Closed loop between production and consumption, using biogas in cooking and biofertilizer in vegetable gardens and flower gardens.

  • Incentive to healthy eating, making use of foods with higher nutritional value.

  • Cost savings for institutions, especially in remote regions, reducing logistical costs and the cost of acquiring gas cylinders.

The project also integrates corporate volunteering, with trained staff who oversee installations and promote environmental and energy education for students and staff.

Results and Objectives

Objectives

  • Promote sustainable management of organic waste..

  • Replace cooking gas with biogas., reducing CO2 emissions.

  • Encourage healthier eating habits and local food production..

  • Educating communities and students about biogas, circular economy and energy transition.

  • To foster corporate engagement. through volunteering and hands-on education.

Expected Results and Impacts

  • 22 biodigesters installed in all regions of Brazil.

  • Each piece of equipment generates Up to 5 hours of biogas per day. e 10 L of biofertilizer, using organic waste.

  • Average reduction of 3,000 kg of LPG in the participating institutions.

  • Economy up to 500 reais/month by beneficiary institution.

  • Direct and indirect benefit for more than 3 thousand people.

  • Potential for recycling 76,650 kg of organic kitchen waste or up to 4.5 tons of animal manure per year..

  • Avoids emission of 25 t CO₂e/year.
