ABOUT IT
Since 2006, ABIHPEC has been developing reverse logistics initiatives, focusing on job creation, income improvement, and social inclusion through partnerships with cooperatives of recyclable material collectors.
As an alternative to managing post-consumer packaging, a pilot project was implemented in four municipalities and ten cooperatives in the state of Santa Catarina.
The Hands for the Future program introduced mechanisms that enable the tracking of post-consumer packaging, expanding control over the processes carried out by cooperatives. Since 2017, these cooperatives have been registering and validating their invoices through a digital platform developed for this purpose.
Currently, the program has around 200 partner cooperatives, benefiting approximately 5,500 families and registering more than 1 million tons of waste recovered or properly disposed of.
Results and Objectives
The project is carried out continuously, with the aim of improving the proper disposal of post-consumer packaging and reducing the volume of recyclable materials sent to landfills.
It seeks to strengthen the collection, sorting, processing, and marketing of recyclables, as well as support job and income generation and the social inclusion of waste pickers.
The initiative offers suitable alternatives for waste management and provides recycling industries with properly processed raw materials, stimulating the circular economy and sustainable development.
