ABOUT IT
O PSA Carbon Agro Perene It is an unprecedented initiative developed by ECCON, in partnership with Citrus Juice and the Votorantim Reservations, aimed at valuation of ecosystem services on rural properties that combine preserved areas of native vegetation e productive perennial crops, like citrus and coffee.
The central proposal is measure, certify and remunerate environmental services — such carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, protection of water resources e responsible use of land — through a innovative methodology adapted to the Brazilian reality. This methodology generates credits called Carbon Plus (C+), which represent not only the stored forest carbon, but also good environmental practices in productive agricultural areas.
The project promotes a low-impact agriculture e climate resilience, adding economic value to production and creating a new source of revenue for rural producers through the marketing of C+ credits.
The methodology uses Remote monitoring and digital data management, guaranteeing Transparency, traceability, and environmental integrity..
The initiative is located in pilot phase application in properties of State of São Paulo, with the potential to expansion to other Brazilian biomes, becoming a model of payment for environmental services (PES) integrated into sustainable production.
Results and Objectives
Environmental:
Valuing ecosystem services on productive properties with perennial crops;
Conserve areas of native vegetation. above the minimum legal requirement;
Encourage regenerative agricultural practices, promoting soil health and water conservation;
Reduce emissions and promote carbon sequestration. in agricultural and forestry areas;
Protecting biodiversity, connecting productive and natural landscapes.
Economic and social:
To compensate rural producers. for measurable and certified environmental services;
Generate carbon credits (C+) with added value (carbon + good practices);
To foster a new green market., with transparency and traceability;
Attracting sustainable investments and to expand Brazil's leading role in the global decarbonization agenda.
Pilot Phase (2024–2025):
6 participating properties from Citrosuco, located in State of São Paulo;
Total area: 24,010 hectares, being 6,403 hectares of preserved native vegetation e 17,607 hectares of productive land;
24 other properties already mapped out for the next phase;
Projected generation of 6,000 C+ credits in the first year., with Estimated value of US$ 20 per credit;
Methodology in the process of international certification. (public consultation concluded in 2024 and official launch in 2025);
Technical presentations confirmed for Climate Week New York and COP30 (Belém/PA);
Digital monitoring via remote sensing, with technical validation and independent audit;
Pilot phase completion scheduled for December 2025, starting from marketing of C+ credits.
