ABOUT IT
The project's Ajinomoto developed the project AjiPro®-L, aimed at reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the livestock sector, especially in the supply chains of beef and dairy products.
The initiative is conducted in partnership with rural producers and companies in the livestock sector, based on a balanced feed enriched with amino acids, which includes the AjiPro®-L — an amino acid protected in the rumen, designed to improve the nutritional efficiency of animals.
The product was developed to provide lysine, one of the most limiting amino acids in the bovine diet, in a way effective and bioavailable. This supplementation helps to balance the amino acid profile in the diet., improving animal productivity e reducing emissions associated with livestock production.
The protocol of AjiPro™-L it has certification by the Japanese carbon credit platform and is also recognized for international voluntary platforms, like the Athian (USA).
Results and Objectives
The main objective of the project is... to promote the decarbonization of the livestock sector through the adoption of nutritional solutions that reduce GHG emissions without compromising productivity.
Specific objectives include:
Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. originating from livestock farming, including carbon dioxide (CO₂), nitrous oxide (N₂O) and methane (CH₄);
Improve feed efficiency and the productivity of cattle herds;
Reduce production costs. through the optimization of feed formulation;
To generate economic benefits for producers. through carbon credit valuation;
To contribute to the preservation of forested areas., by reducing the pressure for new pasture areas;
Supporting the transition to a low-carbon agricultural model, aligned with global sustainability goals.
Preliminary studies and measurements indicate that the use of AjiPro®-L can generate significant reductions in GHG emissions associated with livestock farming, including:
NO: reduction of approximately 25%;
CO₂: reduction of approximately 20%;
CH₄: reduction of approximately 10%;
Estimated total reduction: about 1 tCO₂e per animal per year.
In addition to environmental mitigation, the project also demonstrates improvement in producers' income, due to the reduction in food costs and the possibility of carbon credit trading.
O The project is currently in the development and testing phase with clients., with a forecast of Completion of studies and publication of results by the end of 2025.
With the consolidation of the results, it is expected that the AjiPro®-L become an integrated solution of environmental, economic and social value for producers, manufacturers and governments, strengthening the sustainability of the livestock sector and contributing to the preservation of forested areas.
