Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The project's “"Sonepar Brazil's Sustainable Logistics Journey"” It was created in 2019, driven by the global strategic plan. IMPACT, after the company identified that logistics was the main source of emissions in its scope 3.

The initiative aims to transform the logistics chain into a A vector for decarbonization, innovation, and the generation of shared value., focusing on clean mobility, circular economy, energy efficiency and stakeholder engagement.

The practice is structured in five main axes:

  1. Low Carbon Mobility: Replacing fossil fuels with the use of CNG and electric vehicles.

  2. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: 88% of the units supplied by renewable sources and intelligent consumption management.

  3. Reuse of Materials and Logistics Supplies: Reuse of packaging and use of "sleeve" type plastic pallets.

  4. Reverse Logistics and Waste Reduction: Return and recycling of wooden reels and cable scraps.

  5. Sustainable Culture and Stakeholder Engagement: Training teams and encouraging suppliers to adopt sustainable practices.

Results and Objectives

Project Objectives

Reduce CO₂ emissions associated with logistics operations, transforming them into a decarbonization agent validated by SBTi.
Promoting the circular economy through the reuse of supplies and packaging, reducing waste and extending the life cycle of materials.
Increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources throughout the operational network.
Engaging suppliers and customers in a cleaner and fairer value chain.
Replicating best practices in other international operations of Sonepar.

Results and Impacts

Emissions reduction: fall 64% in CO₂ emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) between 2019 and 2024 — exceeding the company's global target.
Energy efficiency: 88% of the operational units powered by energy from renewable sources.
Economy and smart management: platform monitoring of energy, water and fuels, generating operational adjustments and recurring savings.
Reusing materials:

  • 36 tons of wood saved (reusing 406 large reels);

  • 49 tons of recycled copper (cable scraps);

  • 12 tons of wood avoided through replaced packaging;

  • 150 rolls/month of plastic eliminated with new pallets.
    Engagement and replication: 100% distribution centers reuse cardboard boxes; these practices have been replicated in operations of Colombia, Chile and Peru.
