ABOUT IT

O Assaí Atacadista's Project for Migration to the Free Energy Market It started in 2019, with the purpose of optimize energy consumption in operations., reduce costs e expand the use of renewable energy sources with low environmental impact..

The initiative includes Gradual migration of the company's stores to the Free Energy Market., enabling the hiring of incentivized energy, originating from renewable sources as hydroelectric, solar, wind e biomass.

The process involves technical adequacy of the infrastructure and measurement systems of the units, in order to allow for efficient and monitorable operation in the new contracting environment.

The company also made a commitment that all new stores will be opened directly in the Free Energy Market, ensuring that they operate from the outset under a model more sustainable and economically advantageous.

In addition to migration, Assaí maintains eight stores equipped with photovoltaic roofs, which have already generated 31,192 MWh of renewable energy, avoiding emissions of approximately 1,700 tons of CO₂ equivalent. These facilities add up to 26,800 m² of solar panels, which corresponds to approximately four football fields.

Results and Objectives

The project's main objective is to promote the reduction and optimization of energy consumption. of Assaí's operations, diversifying energy sources e expanding the use of clean and renewable alternatives.

Among its specific objectives are:

  • Migrate 100% from stores to the Free Energy Market. until 2025;

  • Ensure that 100% of the energy consumed in operations comes from renewable sources by 2030., proven by I-REC certificates;

  • Reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions., especially those of Scope 2, associated with energy consumption;

  • Contribute to the corporate goal of reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030., in line with the methodology of Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi);

  • Generate an average savings of 35% in energy costs., compared to the captive market;

  • To promote the diversification and decentralization of the energy matrix., with incentives for sources hydroelectric, wind and solar;

  • Support the National Energy Transition Plan (Plante), through the adoption of low-carbon energy consumption and contracting models;

  • Integrate sustainability goals into corporate strategy., linking them to Variable compensation for middle and senior management..

Results

Since the project began, Assaí has shown consistent results in Migration and operation in the Free Energy Market, with significant advances in energy efficiency and decarbonization:

  • 2019 to 2021: 194 stores migrated (92% of operations);

  • 2022: 96% of the stores already operating on Mercado Libre;

  • 2023: 282 out of 288 units migrated (98% of the total);

  • 2024: 298 out of 302 active units on Mercado Libre, reaching 98.7% of operations;

  • Forecast: 100% of stores in the Free Energy Market up to 2025.

In 2024, Assaí consumed approximately 1,055,750,371 kWh (≈ 1,055.8 GWh) energy from renewable sourceshydroelectric, solar and wind — what it represented 98.7% of the total electrical energy used in its operations..

This sustainable consumption model resulted in:

  • Average savings of 35% in electricity costs;

  • Progressive reduction of Scope 2 emissions, with a goal of to be completely zeroed out by 2030;

  • Additional renewable energy generation (31,192 MWh) in stores with photovoltaic roofs;

  • Avoidance of approximately 1,700 tons of CO₂ equivalent. in emissions;

  • Estimated total area of impact: 12,500 hectares, related to incentivized sources and renewable energy contracts.

The project It has no closing date., as it is permanently integrated into Energy transition strategy and corporate sustainability from Assaí.

This initiative directly contributes to:
