ABOUT IT

Since 2019, Vivo's Supply Chain Carbon Program has been pushing strategic partners of different sizes and segments to implement GHG emissions management. With more than 1,500 suppliers, Vivo has developed a methodology to identify the most carbon-intensive categories, covering 125 companies that account for more than 90% of its Scope 3 emissions.

The first phase of the program is to assess the maturity of each of these suppliers in terms of their work on climate change. Following this, the program included a series of webinars in which it promoted a journey of knowledge about carbon emissions, from a more basic level, on how to draw up an inventory, to a more advanced level, bringing up topics such as climate risks and transparency in reporting.

Over the last year, Vivo has worked with these suppliers to build voluntary commitments to combat climate change, where different levels of commitment have been presented, ranging from a commitment to drawing up an emissions inventory to goals of becoming Net Zero. Thus, it was possible to see that 60% of the suppliers working on the program are acting for the climate, and together, these companies represent 82% of the emissions coming from suppliers.

Vivo also has a Low Carbon Purchasing Instruction, which incorporates the concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), which provides guidelines for applying low carbon energy efficiency principles to the purchase of equipment that is a major consumer of energy and refrigerant gases.

Results and Objectives

The aim of the program is to encourage suppliers to measure and manage their emissions, looking for alternatives to reduce them, in addition to enabling Vivo's goal of reducing emissions from the company's value chain by 56% by 2030 and zeroing these emissions by 2040.
