Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

REDD+ Cerrado is a REDD+ carbon credit certification project outside the Amazon biome in Brazil. The program, at Legado Verdes do Cerrado, was co-developed by Reservas Votorantim and CBA, in partnership with environmental project consultancies ERA and ECCON. As part of its biodiversity conservation initiatives, CBA owns Legado Verdes do Cerrado, a private reserve located in Niquelândia (GO), with an area of around 32,000 hectares.

Owned by CBA -Companhia Brasileira de Alumínio and managed by Reservas Votorantim, the initiatives in this area seek to reconcile the conservation of the biome with the generation of new economy business, contributing to local development, income generation for communities, reducing the effects of climate change, food security, research and innovation in biodiversity conservation, as well as the dissemination of good land use practices and more sustainable technologies. REDD+ Cerrado covers a biome that is undergoing rapid degradation, driven by the advance of the agricultural frontier. The project was developed so that other landowners in the biome can be guided by the methodology and also generate carbon credits in their areas, promoting a major impact for the region in environmental and social terms.
