Brasil Pelo Meio Ambiente

ABOUT IT

In order to prevent the impacts of a severe drought on its plants, AEGEA, at the end of 2020, established a partnership with the meteorological consulting company Climatempo, which provides short and long-term weather forecast data, in addition to alerts on extreme weather events.

An in-depth study was also carried out on hydrographic basins and climate variability for all AEGEA plants, enabling the identification of which plants would be more likely to face issues related to water scarcity.

Crossing operational and climatic data enabled the identification of cities with the greatest risk of water shortages and thus actions were implemented encompassing awareness of water use and consumption, reduction of losses through renovations in the distribution system, and searches for new water sources and capture points through engineering works

The use of climatology in AEGEA sanitation water management in 2021 allowed actions to be carried out before and during the drought period, and as such no municipality suffered from the interruption in supply due to the lack of available water in 2021

The project is still being executed

O projeto não possui certificação externa.

Results and Objectives

The actions that involved increasing the volume of water in areas that experienced drought in 2021 resulted in an increase of over 24,000,000 m³ of preserved and reconditioned water.
