Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

Since 2020, Bayer has been monitoring the social and environmental performance of rural producers who produce soybean and corn seeds for the company in all regions of Brazil, through 15 monitoring criteria that involve Conservation Units, restrictions with inspection bodies such as IBAMA and ICMBio, social relations with the communities where it operates, as well as illegal deforestation in the Amazon and the Cerrado.

To implement this innovative program, Bayer has partnered with Agrotools, a Brazilian Agtech 100% and a pioneer in data intelligence. The project with Agrotools is focused on ESG solutions, carried out completely digitally, in which we understand the situation of each territory, and thus manage to contribute and strengthen actions for a more sustainable agribusiness.

The scope of the program includes an action plan for cases in which an alert is generated. In these cases, each farmer can count on Agrotools' free environmental consultancy service. This program was built with the support of our farmers, who now see Bayer as an ally in the social and environmental management of their properties. Many have even signaled their intention to monitor farms producing other crops.

Results and Objectives

The scenario mapped out in the program, since the first cycle, has confirmed what we already expected: 100% of the soybean seeds marketed by Bayer come from areas free of illegal deforestation or any other socio-environmental illegalities monitored in the program, which converts into socio-environmental traceability for Bayer seeds, providing security and guaranteeing the flow of production for our farmers in a market that is increasingly looking at socio-environmental criteria when buying commodities.

The program also has the goal of monitoring 100% of soybean seed production areas and 100% of corn seed production areas by September 2024.
