ABOUT IT
The Petrobras Socio-environmental Program has brought together, since 2003, the company's voluntary socio-environmental investments, whose purpose is to contribute to the sustainability of the business by supporting socio-environmental initiatives that generate value for Petrobras and for society.
The project is developed in partnership with civil society organizations, with the objective of strengthening dialogue with the communities where the company operates, boosting the production of knowledge relevant to the business, promoting positive social and environmental transformations in society, and strengthening Petrobras' environmental reputation by disseminating its values in four areas of action, including "Forests".
Social and environmental benefits are generated, such as the conservation of associated biodiversity, income generation through support for local production chains, promotion of gender equality, food security, maintenance of ecosystem services, development of forest inventories, community training, as well as knowledge generation and the creation of a georeferenced database.

Results and Objectives
The portfolio of projects focused on Forests within the Petrobras Socio-environmental Program is dynamic and, in 2021, included 17 projects underway. In 2022, four new projects, resulting from a public selection process, are being added to the portfolio, with execution scheduled until 2025.
In 2021, projects were supported that, throughout their implementation, worked on the direct recovery or conservation of approximately 175,000 hectares of forests and natural areas in the Atlantic Forest, Amazon, Caatinga, and Cerrado biomes, contributing to the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions due to deforestation in Brazil.
The projects involved more than 17,000 participants in their activities, such as training and technical support for the restoration and marketing of forest products, or in environmental education initiatives. More than 2,000 people received training on this topic, and 64 technical or scientific publications were produced.
The estimated benefit of the efforts undertaken by these projects since 2013 is approximately 1.3 million tCO2e, of which 95,500 tCO2e refer to net removal through recovery and productive reconversion actions, and 1.2 million tCO2e to emissions avoided through actions that prevent deforestation and forest degradation. These values represent the accumulated results up to 2021 in projects in effect in that year, considering an average period of 5 years. The results were reported by the projects with which we shared a methodological guide developed in 2019, with the aim of guiding carbon quantification through the establishment of technical benchmarks.
