Brazil for the Environment

ABOUT IT

The main objective of the project was to replace the dry ice used by the group to store blood and serum samples that are stable at temperatures below -20ºC, with frozen transport boxes.

Dry ice comes from dirty, non-renewable energy and is difficult to obtain and expensive. As it sublimates quickly, it is necessary to use large quantities to ensure the sample is frozen throughout the journey from the collection point to the technical area. Handling it can cause burns to the employee's skin and ergonomic problems when sorting large quantities on a daily basis, as well as reducing the useful life of the transport boxes.

The aim of this project is to use the frozen box to replace dry ice, reducing risks and improving the quality of life of staff, reducing the logistical challenge and the impact on the environment.

Results and Objectives

  • The project replaced dry ice with 220 frozen boxes in the operation, at 60 sites on the SP-RJ stretch, bringing sustainable, quality and financial gains with a positive impact on the business margin.

  •

Since 2020, the replacement of dry ice with frozen boxes has made it possible to reduce the emission of approx. 200 tons of CO2
